Earlier in this Newsletter we wrote about one of the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program’s annual traditions, the Alumni-Mentees collaboration. At that same event, we also have another tradition which is to have each Mentee and Mentor bring an unwrapped gift for a child. The gifts are given to a charity that aligns well with the tenets of the L.A.M.P Mentor Program.

As is the case every year, all our Mentees and Mentors participated in this effort to provide Toys to both boys and girls in need.
The charity that was selected this year to be the benefactor of the 2021 Toy Drive is Friends In Deed in Pasadena, California.

Friends In Deed provides many needed services to members of our community who are less fortunate. The programs that this charity provides are: The Women’s Room; Street Outreach; Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance; The Food Pantry and the Bad Weather Shelter.

We are very pleased to share the following quotation from Gloria Leufroy, a volunteer from Friends In Deed:

“We held our annual ‘Christmas for the Kids’ event the Saturday before Christmas, and the thought of local children getting presents under the tree this Christmas made our hearts just burst with joy. Our team of staff and volunteers played Santa Claus’ helpers to get Friends In Deed ready for the big day. And it was a great day, as more than 200 kids from 83 families, received gifts and other much needed supplies. Friends In Deed would like to thank the Gamma Zeta Boule Foundation’s, L.A.M.P. Mentor Program, for their participation. It warms our hearts when young people are driven to help those in need. The L.A.M.P. mentees helped make this year’s “Christmas for the Kids” another big success. A very Merry Christmas was had by all.”

We thank our Mentees and Mentors for participating in this Toy Drive which we hope brought a smile to the face of the recipients of these toys.
