Congressman Tony Cardenas Inspires L.A.M.P. Mentees with an Impassioned Speech!


On December 16, 2023, at its annual L.A.M.P. Holiday Alumni Reunion and Toys for Tots Drive, the L.A.M.P. Mentees, and their parents heard an impassioned speech from Congressman Tony Cardenas of the 29 th Congressional District. Congressman Cardenas described many aspects of his long and fruitful career and ended his talk by asking each Mentee to reaffirm the words… “I Am a Leader” multiple times. L.A.M.P. Mentor Program Visits Washington DC and the White House on the 2nd Capstone Experience Excursion.


The 2nd Annual L.A.M.P. Mentor Program Capstone Experience Excursion took 10 rising seniors, one graduating senior and six Mentors to Washington, DC for a week of college and museum visits, cultural activities and dinners with successful African American men from June 11-17, 2023. The group arrived at 7:00 am Sunday, June 11 and proceeded to the cultural center and restaurant at Busboys & Poets on 14th Street. Although everyone was tired from the red-eye flight from LAX, we all perked up when the shrimp & grits and other delectable dishes arrived for breakfast. L.A.M.P. Launches 2023-2024 Program Year with Record Enrollment


The Gamma Zeta Boule Foundation’s L.A.M.P. Mentor Program began its 2023-2024 Program Year with an Orientation and Etiquette Workshop on August 26, 2023. The Program experienced exponential growth from last year and increased in enrollment from 36 African American high school male students to 60 and resultant challenges in terms of resources. The Orientation included the Mentees and approximately 95 parents and 12 Mentors and members of the Gamma Zeta Boule Foundation board of directors. Speakers included Archon Earle Charles, L.A.M.P. Ten Outstanding High School Seniors Graduate from Gamma Zeta Boulé Foundation


There was magic in the air inspiring an afternoon of Black excellence as the Gamma Zeta Boulé Foundation (GZBF) hosted its 18th annual L.A.M.P Mentor Program Scholarship Celebration: Igniting the Torch of Empowerment at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel on May 20, 2023, in Pasadena, CA. The luncheon honors graduating seniors and rewarding them with scholarship support for college. The L.A.M.P. Mentor Program is open to African American men, grades 9-12, who desire to attend and graduate from the college or university of their choice. L.A.M.P. Mentor Program The Year in Review


What a year it has been, and we are only halfway through. The 2022-23 L.A.M.P. Program year has been nothing but spectacular and there are five months to go before the highly acclaimed L.A.M.P. Scholarship Celebration where the High School Seniors matriculate from being L.A.M.P. Mentees to L.A.M.P. Alumni who are on their way to a College or University. In this edition of The Brotherhood! we will recount the various Events, Workshops, and Activities that made the first half of the 2022-23 program year so very special and meaningful to the L.A.M.P. The August L.A.M.P. Workshop is usually the first session of the Program year, and this year was no different. In the 2022-23 program year, we enrolled thirty-six (36) Mentees of which approximately 50 percent were from the Pasadena area and the other 50 percent were from surrounding communities such as the San Fernando Valley, the Santa Clarita Valley, and Los Angeles. This cohort of students is grade-level stratified as follows – Freshmen (7); Sophomores (8); Juniors (11), and Seniors (10). The speakers at the August Workshop were three professionals (Mr. Everad Williams; Mr. Mark Page, and Mr. Kevin Bathune) from the Art Center College of Design ( ) in Pasadena, California. [...]


Public Speaking With Professor Ian Lising


For the September Workshop, the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program invited Professor Ian Lising to talk about and provide pointers and assistance on Public Speaking. Professor Lising teaches Speech and Communication at the University of La Verne. This workshop met at the Pasadena Rosebud Academy. Shawn Brumfield, the Director of the Academy, has graciously allowed the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program to meet at the Academy for the once-a-month workshops, and we thank her for her continued support of the Program. As is the custom at the L.A.M.P.
