2020-11-16T01:53:44-08:00

March of 2020 was the beginning of a new way of life as everywhere someone turned, from playgrounds to parks, from schools to public libraries, and all other events where youth could become motivated and inspired was suddenly being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was also true as GZBF in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation, the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Pasadena City College were set to kick-off their 5th Annual Career STEAMposium. Everyone from the students, to presenters, to parents, and the organizations that sponsored the event were excited and elated to once again gear up for was certain to be [...]

Amplifying This Supernatural Moment of Unity

2020-11-16T01:19:28-08:00

It is with good spirits that the Gamma Zeta Boulé Foundation (GZBF) greets you as we navigate a most unique set of global circumstances in 2020. Specifically, under the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, widespread racial justice campaigns, and the combination of a vibrant political climate and highly anticipated election season, we are compelled to make our contribution to this movement enduring beyond the moment. In line with that missional mandate, Ramsey Jay, Jr., GZBF’s President, was blessed to share a message titled “Amplifying This Supernatural Moment of Unity” at The Rock Christian Fellowship (Long Beach, CA). The message shares words of inspiration, combined with practical opportunities to advance [...]

GZBF’s 2019-2020 LAMP Mentor Program Begins

2020-11-16T00:23:07-08:00

GZBF’s LAMP Mentor Program began its 2019-20 year with a stellar event. On August 24, 2019, we gathered at Fleming’s Restaurant and Wine Bar for an Orientation for all Mentees and the parents of new Mentees. During the Orientation we focused on the expectations of the LAMP Mentor Program towards its Mentees and the parents of Mentees. We also focused on what expectations the Mentees and parents should have for the Program. Each Mentee and parent introduced themselves with their name, high school name and grade, and what they expected to gain by participating in the LAMP Mentor Program. Parents provided the name of a college they attended and what they [...]

L.A.M.P. Mentor Program Scholarship Interviews

2020-11-16T00:37:16-08:00

Over two weekends in April 2020 during the COVID-19 experience of social distancing, I was privileged to be among four panelists who conducted virtual interviews for scholarships with a total of nine (9) graduating L.A.M.P. Mentor Program mentees. This was a completely exhilarating experience. Each of the students came to the virtual meeting properly dressed as one would expect of someone who was about to be interviewed in a professional setting. Amazingly in the entire interview session with each student, the lighting and background setting was just right and resulted in no distraction to the interviewing panel as each student received each question and provided very thoughtful answers to the panel. GZBF Goes Virtual in Light of COVID-19 Pandemic

2020-11-16T00:34:56-08:00

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. On April 16, 2020, GZBF’s Board of Directors held a virtual/online meeting to discuss how GZBF’s award winning L.A.M.P. Mentor Program could be optimized to best serve its mentees in light of the federal, state, county and city mandates surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic. It progressed without a hitch or glitch. The meeting began at 7:30 pm with a Welcome from Ramsey Jay, Jr., GZBF’s President, and a discussion on Board Commitments and Recruiting. We then moved into Key Initiatives Report on the Foundations Social Engagement, Communication, Giving and our Legacy Engagements. This was followed by the treasury report, communications report, and a [...]

L.A.M.P. Mentor Program Provides Mock Interview Session

2020-11-16T00:32:15-08:00

The main topic for the January 2020 GZBF’s L.A.M.P. Mentor Program activity was “Mock Interviews.” Since the inception of the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program, this subject has been one of the most popular sessions with students. GZBF recognizes that many students will soon be new entrants into the job market and they may lack experience in interviewing skills. GZBF believes strongly in the benefits of practice interview sessions and has included mock interviews in the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program curriculum each year in order to ensure that students are well prepared for the future. Ten Gamma Zeta Boulé members volunteered their Saturday morning to participate as interview panel members. It was pointed out [...]
