The L.A.M.P. Mentor Program and Jacobs, a national leading engineering and STEM company, have enjoyed a mutual commitment to the success of the Program for many years. In November 2021, at its annual board meeting, Steve Demetriou, Jacobs’ CEO, announced a new level of support with a $100,000 gift to the Gamma Zeta Boule Foundation for the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program. The announcement came as part of the recognition of the service of Archon Robert Davidson for his 20-year tenure on the board of Jacobs. Archon Davidson introduced the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program to Jacobs and its senior leadership. Jacobs and Mr. Demetriou have been supporting the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program with an annual [...]

L.A.M.P. Mentor Program Alumni and Mentees Collaboration

2022-01-10T14:52:28-08:00

According to Wikipedia, “A tradition is a belief or behavior (folk custom) passed down within a group or society with symbolic meaning or special significance with origins in the past”. Another dictionary source defined tradition as – “The passing down of elements of a culture from generation to generation, especially by oral communication”. Both definitions were proven and demonstrated to be true on December 18, 2021, when L.A.M.P. continued its annual tradition of bringing back former Mentees who are now at universities across this land to speak to, and provide advice to, and take questions from the current Mentees. The session was moderated by the president of Gamma Zeta Boule Foundation, [...]

L.A.M.P. Mentees and Parents See August Wilson’s Seven Guitars at A Noise Within in Pasadena, CA

2022-01-11T13:13:52-08:00

One part of the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program includes the Mentees reading two books during the program year. This year, the Mentees read the August Wilson play, Seven Guitars. This is the second August Wilson play that the Mentees in the Program have read. In 2019, the Mentees read, Gem of the Ocean. Also in 2019, the Mentees and parents went to the local Pasadena theater, A Noise With, to see a rendition of Gem of the Ocean. In 2021, the Mentees and parents repeated that experience by seeing the rendition of Seven Guitars at the same theater. The experience had two significant components. First, the Mentees read the play in advance [...]

Tribute to Former La Salle Preparatory President Dr. Richard Gray

2022-01-11T13:13:36-08:00

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of the former president of La Salle College Preparatory, Dr. Richard Gray. In addition to serving at the prestigious Pasadena based high school for 20 years, Dr. Gray was an ardent supporter of the Gamma Zeta Boulé Foundation’s L.A.M.P. Mentor Program from its inception. After learning about the Gamma Zeta Boulé Foundation from Archon Raymond Ealy, Dr. Gray immediately promised his support for the goals of the L.A.M.P. Mentor Program. He offered the use of La Salle’s beautiful and spacious Blakeslee Library as a venue for some of the Saturday morning L.A.M.P. sessions. Dr. Gray was extremely impressed with the L.A.M.P. [...]

The L.A.M.P. Suit Bank and the JCPenney Collaboration

2021-10-31T19:37:36-08:00

The genesis of the L.A.M.P. Suit Bank came from the caring and concern of two of our very own mentees; Xavier Smith and Marshall Dodds. They approached Therese Dodds and Elvia Bedolla, from the L.A.M.P. Parent Auxiliary Council, when they noticed some mentees were not dressed in the required business attire for the monthly events. Sensitive to the potential reasons for this Marshall Dodds stated: “Xavier and I thought a suit exchange program would be a great idea that would help mentees who didn’t have suits. I, myself, have had some nice suits handed down to me from family friends, which has allowed me more variety in my business attire. My [...]
